Wild lettuce favors disturbed, sunny ground: roadsides, railway embankments, vacant lots, and field margins. Safety and Who Should Avoid It
Raw plant material and excessive doses have documented toxicity — dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, and in more severe cases hallucinations and urinary retention. Because wild lettuce is in the Asteraceae family, anyone with a known sensitivity to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, or daisies has a real cross-reactivity risk and should patch-test first. Avoid it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with prostate-related urinary retention risk, or with narrow-angle glaucoma, and be aware it adds to the sedating effect of alcohol, cannabis, or other sedative medications.
